PerformFISH

„Consumer Driven Production: Integrating Innovative Approaches for Competitive and Sustainable Performance across the Mediterranean Aquaculture Value Chain“

The project provided support to the Mediterranean marine fish farming industry (MMFF) through producer associations from Greece, Spain, Italy, France, and Croatia, who were directly involved as partners. Their participation ensured that the sector’s needs were met, and that knowledge was effectively transferred to their members. The PerformFISH project aimed to facilitate the sustainable growth of the MMFF industry, based on consumer perceptions and actual market demands. The goal was to support fish farms in operating not only under optimal economic and ecological conditions but also in a socially and culturally responsible manner.

The project increased competitiveness and improved the perception of consumers and society regarding the Mediterranean marine fish farming industry (MMFF), which adopted a holistic approach. This approach led to the production of safe and healthy food with a low ecological footprint, facilitated employment and trade in rural, peripheral, and coastal areas, and reduced Europe’s dependence on seafood imports. Furthermore, the performance of target fish species was significantly improved through the establishment and monitoring of sector-approved key performance indicators (KPIs), and fish farming practices were consolidated through approved certification.
