Cromaris Board

Message from the Management Board

The conditions in the aquaculture market in 2025 continued to change. Production in Europe’s largest producer countries remained largely stable, while production in the European Union is still declining. At the same time, imports of white Mediterranean fish from North African countries, notably Tunisia and Morocco, additionally increased competition in key markets. Croatia achieved the objectives of the National Aquaculture Development Plan 2021–2027, thus confirming the potential of the domestic industry. However, production growth takes place on a much smaller scale compared to the leading European producers. For this reason, quality differentiation, production efficiency, and the development of value-added products remain key prerequisites for the long-term sustainability of Cromaris’ business. The limited nature of natural fish stocks and growing demand for healthy protein sources further emphasize the importance of aquaculture as a stable food supply. Compared to land-based farming, aquaculture has lower carbon dioxide emissions, better feed conversion, and lower freshwater consumption. However, this model requires constant technical and organizational adjustments to remain sustainable in the long term.

Over the course of the year, we continued to improve farming efficiency, resource management, and cost control. Special attention was given to increasing the share of renewable energy sources, optimizing fish feed, and reducing environmental impacts, while preserving product quality and fish welfare. Employees are the foundation of business stability, so in 2025 we continued to invest in workplace safety, knowledge development, and strengthening organizational cohesion and efficiency. We improved relationships with customers by enhancing delivery reliability and maintaining open communication, and ensured traceability of raw materials and products as well as product safety. Engagement with suppliers, local communities, and academic institutions was aimed at strengthening a supportive environment, increasing the resilience of the value chain, improving business practices, and reducing the environmental footprint.

We would like to thank all employees, partners, consumers, and end users for their trust and cooperation during 2025. We continue to operate with the aim of preserving stability, ensuring responsible resource management, and securing the long-term sustainability of Cromaris.
