As part of the World Congress of Agricultural Journalists (IFAJ Croatia 2026), being held in Croatia for the first time this year, around 30 journalists from the USA, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Kenya, Australia, Slovenia, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina visited Zadar and Cromaris as part of the PostTour Zadar programme.
The visit to Cromaris, organised by the Croatian Association of Agricultural Journalists with the support of Zadar County, was part of a programme showcasing successful, innovative and sustainable examples of food production in Croatia. Through reports and articles produced during the congress, the story of Croatian mariculture, the quality of Adriatic seafood and the role of aquaculture in sustainable food production will reach audiences around the world.
During their visit to Cromaris’ processing facility in Gaženica, the international guests were introduced to the company’s “from sea to table” production model, covering farming, processing, logistics and distribution. Particular emphasis was placed on Cromaris’ vertically integrated business model, which covers all stages of production, from its own hatchery and fish feed development to placing products on European markets, ensuring full traceability and consistently high product quality.
Cromaris operates seven farms along the Croatian coast, six of them in the Zadar area, as well as one of Europe’s most advanced hatcheries for Mediterranean fish, located in Nin. More than 600 employees contribute every day to the development of a business built on more than four decades of experience in Mediterranean fish farming.
The international guests were also introduced to the Cromaris product range, which includes sea bream, sea bass, meagre and dentex, as well as the premium Grand Selection range intended for fine dining. Sustainability and the responsible use of marine resources were among the topics that attracted particular interest. In 2019, Cromaris became the first company in the industry to have all its farms and all commercial species certified to the ASC standard.
The visit to Cromaris was organised with the aim of presenting some of Croatia’s most successful examples of food production, sustainable development and export competitiveness.
Another part of the congress programme is AgroRocks, an international conference dedicated to new technologies, digitalisation and artificial intelligence in agriculture, bringing together producers, experts and representatives of the technology sector from Croatia and abroad.
