„Blue Education for Sustainable Management of Aquatic Resources“
Considering the growing demand for aquatic products in the domestic market and the European Union market, the fisheries and aquaculture sector has significant potential for growth and job creation. This project aimed to address the need for developing a new, trained workforce to support the sustainable development of the blue sector, particularly fisheries and aquaculture, in the Zadar County and throughout Croatia.
The project encompassed activities focused on fundamental and continuous education of existing and new workers in the blue sector, as well as the creation of specific professional profiles at local, national, and international levels.
As part of the project, a master’s program in “Sustainable Management of Aquatic Ecosystems” was established at the University of Zadar. The program is based on an interdisciplinary approach to managing aquatic ecosystems, with a special emphasis on environmental protection. Additionally, an online course titled “Basics of Best Practices in Fisheries” was developed, providing further professionalization for workers in this sector.
Cromaris, from the perspective of the economic sector, contributed to the formation of the new study program and the creation of the online course. The program will equip students to manage various activities related to coastal, freshwater, and marine environments, such as the biology and ecology of aquatic ecosystems, aquaculture, fisheries, protection of aquatic ecosystems, and management of protected marine areas, ultimately enhancing their employability in the blue sector.
